All Ireland Final Buildup

July 29, 2023 1353 Views

What a Final we have tomorrow to follow on from the fantastic hurling final last Sunday.
Limerick look like they might threaten Dublin's 6 in a row.
All now turns to the age old rivalry of Dublin v Kerry.
Take a few minutes to read Dave's article on the Dublin Kerry rivalry, which we posted in Club notes this week

The last few tickets will be raffled among those not lucky to date this evening in the Bar .
Please bring cash to pay for a ticket you might be lucky enough to get.

We are also raffling 2 Stand tickets tonight. Tickets in the bar and oline

Don't forget Colours night is tonight, so get the iron at that Mayo or Westmeath jersey you threw in the back of the wardrobe.
The Hall and Bar will be open on Sunday for the Final with all screens showing the match.

THE DUBS v THE KINGDOM (The rivalry continues)

Anybody Buying or Selling will ring out all over the streets and clubs throughout Dublin for the next few days.
The hottest ticket on sale this week is not for Coldplay in Croker in 12 months but the golden tickets for the GAA classic of the year The Dubs v The Kingdom.
Will Mickey Fitz hold David Clifford scoreless? Will Jack start on Seamie o Shea? Will Clucko step up to take a last minute free again to kick-start the memories from 2011 and the mayhem that followed for weeks on end? Can James Mc lift the Sam at fulltime? All these questions and more will be asked around every club over the coming days.
As for Fingallians participants unfortunately we don’t have anybody on the match day squads this time around but rewind the clocks and we can look back at the contribution two of our club stalwarts brought to the table on all Ireland day against the mighty men from Kerry.
The 80s brought out the revival of the great days of the 70s when Dublin and Kerry matched up again in the 1984 Final and our own Kieran Duff aka Dully lined out at corner forward scoring 2-9 in championship on way to the final, again in 1985 final Dully lined out in the forwards after netting two goals against Mayo in semi-final but it was not to be the Dubs day with Kerry running out 4pts the better on both occasions.
Over the course of his Dublin career Dully has won
1 All-Ireland in 83 and 1 Minor All Ireland in 1979
2 National league titles 86-87 and 90-91
2 All-stars 87 and 88
and scored a massive 9-57 over the course of twelve years wearing the blue jersey.

Roll on to the famous day in 2011 when the club had the re-emerging of another flying forward in the number 10 shirt one Paul Flynn aka Flynner. Who after battling to be fit lined out at half forward and contributed to a great day out for the county with everyone remembering that last minute free by Cluxton, it was one for the history books. Dubs would have many other big battles in semi-finals with Kerry again in 2013 with Flynner leading the way again with a monster display, worth checking out the pictures from the media of the celebrations at the final whistle.
Roll on Sept 2015 and to cap of what was a great weekend in the club, Flynner lined out again at 10 for the Dubs in a monsoon of a day when the Dubs and Kerry again served up another treat in what could not be called a classic but more a war of attrition due to weather and pitch conditions.
Flynner was pivotal to that victory by covering every section of the Croke park pitch throughout the game and putting over two points on the day to ensure the dubs got over the line to kick-start the road to the famous six in a row.
Over the course of his Dublin career Flynner has won
6 All-Irelands 2011-13-15-16-17-18.
4 All-stars in a row 2011-12-13-14.
10 Leinster titles 2008-09-2011-2018
5 national league titles 2013-14-15-16-18
and scored 3-32 over the course of eleven years wearing the blue jersey.

Hopefully in the coming years we will have another famous name wearing the blue jersey on All Ireland day and be able to add their story to the history books of the club.
For now let’s hope the blue and navy party kicks off on Sunday evening after James Mc raises SAM.
